Burr ElmMeaning: strength of will and intuition.The elm is a tall and graceful tree, with fan-shaped crowns of finely subdividing branches and twigs, elms are widely planted as ornamental and shade trees. Although over the last 40 years dutch elm disease has had a major impact on the number of elm trees throughout Europe. The burr of the tree is an abnormal growth as you can see in the bottom left hand picture. The interior of these growths consists of hundreds of tiny buds that have failed to grow properly and have continued to be produced. This creates a tight wavy grain. The burr elm we have was given to us by a local joiner. |
