Cornish Makers Gift Guide

We are lucky to live in such a creative place, surrounded by so many excellent craftspeople. We've put together this little Cornish makers gift guide that features but a few of our favourites. There are so many more we could include! Let us know if you want a gift guide 2.0.

Green and Blue

Bee Bricks - homes for bees We're big fans of these guys. Based up the coast from us, they are a B Corp, entirely British made and these clever Bee Bricks are made with 75% waste material from Cornish clay mines. Their products are brilliantly designed to give wildlife a helping hand. A great gift for garden and nature lovers.

Black Box Cake

Know someone as mad about cake as we are? Imagine the joy of luxury cake through your letterbox! Beats a Christmas card hands down. Beautifully packaged, expertly baked by Peboryn who are famous for making the most amazing wedding and celebration cakes. If your cake lover is more of a baker, they host masterclasses too!

Super Tube - Surf Wax and Art

This Bee Bumps Eco Surf Wax is handmade by couple of local beekeepers who even go to Spain to help collect the resin that also goes into the mix. It smells great and helps protect the environment from the nasties in some other surf waxes. Alongside the surf wax, Joe McDonald is an artist - his paintings and prints are inspired by his surf trips. Pair a print with surf wax for a pretty solid gift for the surfer in your life.

The Planted House

A lovely houseplant is such a great gift for any occasion. Unless your loved ones really can't keep them alive. But we are all big fans of a nice plant here at the workshop and The Planted House is our go to place. Not only is it a total jungle, theres also all sorts of treasures from beautiful pots to refillable candles made in Cornwall. If you can't get to Penzance, then try to find a nice independent plant shop close to you. You're not only supporting a small business, but are likely to get a much happier plant from better stock too :)

Canteen Cook Book

Canteen Cookbook

If we are ever in the St Agnes area (and we have been known to travel there especially) we eat at Canteen. It's no nonsense, delicious, good quality food for a fiver! Now they have gone and written a Crowdfunded cookbook! So we can have a go at recreating it at home. You (and your loved ones) might want to too. Although we aren't sure if they are available on-line yet...

Davy J Swimsuits

Wild Swimmer in Red Swimsuit Looking for a beautifully made, sustainable and stylish swimsuit for that crazy friend who swims in the sea all year round? We found this excellent local brand when they visited the workshop to choose rings!

Poppy Treffry

Bag with Wild Grasses Embroidered Poppy and her team make a whole range of different products inspired by Poppy's sketchbooks of Cornwall. There's all sorts from quirky tea towels to beautiful big bags and bespoke pictures. We particularly like her latest range inspired by our local hedgerows.

Tinkture

Tinkture Cocktail Baubles Tinkture make delicious rose gin just down the road. We love their product, their clever packaging and their ethos. Oh, and they are lovely people too! Their Cocktail Baubles make for particularly excellent Christmas presents.

Peter Swanson Pottery at No. 56

Let's start by saying we love pretty much everything in No. 56. It's our go to shop in Penzance for gifts or even just a moment of calm. It's a beautifully curated space. Peter Swanson is one of our (many) favourite potters, from big pasta bowls to mugs, his pieces are beautiful and tactile.

The Cornish Seaweed Bath Co.

Seaweed Body Products

Hannah and Richard make a lovely range of body products using locally foraged seaweeds which work wonders on your skin. All their ingredients are natural and their packaging is almost entirely plastic free.

Sarah Woods

Coastal Etching by Sarah Woods We love Sarah's graphic contemporary twist on classic Cornish seascapes. Her etchings are our favourites, but she does beautiful minimalist paintings too. She is based in Porthmeor studios in Newlyn, just up the road from our old workshop.

Cornish Blooms

Cornish Blooms

Flowers are always an excellent present. But not when they have been flown half way round the world! Cornish Blooms are grown, picked and packaged on their family farm and can be posted all round the country. You can choose from their many one off bunches and flower subscriptions.

Shadowed Earth

Two Toned Ash Vessels Beautiful vessels handmade from local naturally coppiced or felled wood. Each piece is made to complement the wood Nick starts from. Some are blackened with fire, others not. Taiman is a particular fan and loves her elm bowl.

Justin Duance

Sandcast Drop Pendant

We couldn't make a gift guide of Cornish makers without including ourselves, could we? ;) Our sandcast drop pendants are one of our favourite gifts to our own loved ones (all of Issy's best friends have one!). They make for a lovely sentimental present without having to worry about getting the right size. And we often have one or two in stock for last minute orders.

The Gift Card

Finally, we have the gift card. The ultimate gift for those who have to pick their own present. Our gift card can be made out to as little as £10 and be used as a contribution to a loved one's bigger jewellery plan. We have a digital option, or a physical one which is handwritten and can be posted directly to the recipient. We hope you have found some inspiration in our Cornish makers gift guide. Be it for Christmas presents, your own wish lists or simply as a nice insight into some of the many talented people around us.
